Vieste is a town on the promontory of Gargano which was important for its strategic geographic position. In fact, it had the control of trade in the Adriatic sea. This town is bordered by two long sandy beaches and, for years, it has been the destination of tourists from all over Europe.

On the flat area Vieste is characterized by the nineteenth century and modern quarter, while on the rocky hill is perched the picturesque old town, typical of the medieval period, characterized by narrow streets and whose homes with the typical external staircases are joined from time to time by slender buttress arches that served to defend itself from invasions.

As it has been attacked in different historical periods, the architectonic style of the town is mixed. The establishment of Frederick II of Svevia made Vieste impregnable.
